Crater Lake to Reno

After a nice evening in Crater Lake, we got up early and headed for Winnemucca, Nevada.  We decided en route to switch to Reno instead, which is further south.  As we drove into Northern California, we drove right through some of the wildfires that are happening there.  There were fire departments from all over, and helicopters dropping large buckets of anti-fire shit.  It was erie and a little scary for a short while as we tried to figure out if we were driving into our fiery deaths in the inferno.  Fires were burning on both sides of the highway with blackened landscape everywhere.  Fortunately, we got through it and continued our way through Mount Shasta National Forest with the majestic Mount Shasta rising above all around it.  It was a scenic drive, and was just another example on this trip of how incredibly awesome our great country is.  I love Oregon and Northern California so much for it's natural beauty.  There is a gnomey quality to it with all the moss on the trees and the rocks.  Add some mist and clouds and you've got a wonderland that seems right out of a fairy tale.  It's JRR Tolkien territory for sure.

We rolled into Reno and tried to grab a casino hotel in town, but the three we tried were all full, and we were pushed into the suburbs to find a hotel with parking for an RV.  We pulled into the Casino Inn, and for a brief moment, thought we had found a great place to stay and park.  Well...we were right about a great place to park.  If you are a crackhead or a junkie, this is a great place to park and probably stay too.  I think the woman we parked next to was living in her car.   After a few minutes, we pulled out of the Casino Inn parking lot to go find a real hotel.  We ended up in a Marriott Courtyard, with a perfect parking spot right out front.  Tomorrow, we will push Eastward towards Albuquerque, but will make it to Las Vegas.  It will be Dylan's 19th birthday, so I think we will show Vegas how the McQuaid's do it!
