Shake It, Shake It Sugaree

Hello, and welcome to our blog about our beloved, converted school bus (or skoolie, as they are often called), Sugaree!  We also very lovingly refer to her as "The Ambassador of Joy" because she puts a smile on most everyone's face that she encounters. We refer to Sugaree as being a "her" because she's a beautiful addition to our family and she's something that we all hold very near and dear to our hearts.  The times we've spent together as a family, traveling all over our beautiful country, or even here in Dallas, are nothing short of magical moments!  Absolutely priceless time spent with our friends and family.  We've truly met some of the most amazing people and heard some unbelievable tales and so we are inspired to share it here with you on this blog and to preserve these memories for the five of us as well.

A condensed background about us is that we are family of five from Dallas, Texas.  We are all very passionate about music and the fun scene that goes along with such festivities.  David, my husband, became an avid Deadhead before we started our family back in the early 90's.  I had no choice but to become a Deadhead also, not only because of the obvious...the music, but because of the tribe.  These many colorful, old and newfound friends are now people we consider family.  It's a scene like no other.  Of course all of our "kids" are very proud Deadheads as well.  The Grateful Dead, very obviously, is the inspiration behind Sugaree with David being the mastermind behind her.  This has been a lifelong dream of his to own a bus to tour around in.  Little did he know that we would make that dream not only a reality, but a wondrous reality at that.  Sugaree is a continual work in progress and probably always will be.  We all five have contributed into making her the beautiful work of art that she is today and I don't think any one of us could be any more proud of her than we already are.  I really could go on and on, but the best way for you to understand what joy Sugaree brings to people is to start from the beginning.  The birth of our beloved Sugaree back when we bought her in February 2015.

The following posts will be from my cooking blog, Kelly's Life is Delicious, back from when we first picked Sugaree out.  There are stories of us bringing her home and ultimately making her into what she is and where all we've traveled until today.

We're currently about to embark on yet another epic road trip, this time to the Pacific Northwest.  It will be only four out of five of us this trip as Avery, our oldest daughter, is in Thailand.  Not only is she there for fun and to master the art of scuba diving, but she was able to incorporate some truly meaningful work in that region as well.  We knew the day would come when we all wouldn't be able to make the annual, summer trip.  We are so thankful and fortunate that we got to do it for 3 years in a row before careers and families began for Avery, Cassidy and Dylan.  David and I could not be more proud of these three incredible souls that we've had the privilege of raising and watch flourish into these amazing adults.  We are so blessed that we all have so much fun together!  This certainly does not mean it is the last trip for this fabulous five...

Let the good times (continue to) roll!!!

xoxo

  1. I bought a bus too. It's a 1984 IH. I haven't started the conversion yet but plan to soon. I have been collecting supplies. The floor is my first big project. Most of the seats are already out so that's a plus. I will admit I am confused about your bus. Did you just buy it or have you had it for awhile? You family is adorable btw.

    1. Hi Paula~Thank you for your comments. Congratulations on the purchase of your bus. We bought our bus 3 years ago, but I am just starting this blog to document everything we've done up until now. I've had most of these posts on another blog, kellyslifeisdelicious.blogspot.com, but that is from my cooking blog. We've been wanting to start a blog specifically for Sugaree and so here it is. We will be documenting our upcoming travels here as well. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks again for reaching out.
